So how is the first solo day going? Well, we slept pretty well last night. Martin was kind enough to sit quietly and look around while I took a 5 minute shower and put some yougurt, berries and granola in a bowl and a turkey sausage pattie on the stove. I was able to get a pediatrics appt for 10:30 in the morning. Despite spending nearly 45 minutes on the phone prior to leaving for said appt to get insurance junk in order, we even made it on time!
If this looks like a chubby face, it is! Martin is already 9 lbs at 6 days old! (For those of you not keeping track, he was 8lbs, 5 oz at birth, left the hospital at 8 lbs.) Apparently he is eating enough.
The appointment went well from my point of view. The resident at the clinic today (Justin, is his name Eric?) happened to be the one on rounds while we were in the hospital. He also happens to be married to the student midwife who for all intents and purposes delivered Martin. So, it was fun to see him again. Martin found the whole thing a bit stressful - needing to be woken up with only a tiny snack and then being naked and held by strangers! Between it and the car ride, he is tuckered out and has been sleeping for the past 3 hours. This allowed me time to finalize a presentation, take out the trash, eat lunch, check email and write this blog!
I need to go wake him and try and fill him up with some milk since we have to leave for school in about 1.5 hours. There I am presenting a paper for 25 minutes and am going to try and quietly observe other presentations afterwards. We shall see how it goes!

Hi Nicole and Martin,
There is very proud Papa in Columbus, OH right now who can't get enough of looking at his little boy. I love you both very much I can't wait to get back out to Portland. I love the pictures, they make my day!!!
He is so cute and getting chunky. His face has blossomed--not looking newborn at all anymore. I think I see more of you in him as he gets older.
Aurelie
I love babysitting him!
What a little cherub! Wow, 30+ hours of labor--interesting how quickly you forget about the pain when you have such a sweet little present as a result. Congradulations! Love Hayley
We are so proud of you Nicole. You and Justin both! You are going to be great parents and in fact already are. I can imagine how hard it is for you Justin to leave them for even a few days. How wonderful the blog is to keep us all updated on how little Martin is doing. Nicole you are to be commended on how you are handling everything. Martin has changed so much in just a week. My he looks so much older and sooooooooooo darn cute. Yes I agree he does have more of a look of you in the last picture. Really a look all of his own. Love you. xoxoxoxoxo
