Before we left for Glacier on our way back to the midwest, we decided we might want to dry run camping while pregnant. We thought a night of beach camping was in order and headed to Astoria. We were fairly unimpressed with Astoria itself, although the Washington State side of where the Columbia River meets the ocean (Cape Disappointment) was beautiful.
A picture of the Columbia River meeting the Ocean.
A picture of Nicole on the beach of Cape Dissapointment.
We camped at a state park that used to be a Military Fort on the Oregon side. Nice park. Rained like mad during the night (and our cheap tent from last year’s road trip held up like a champ). We woke up to beautiful sunshine and I even got a bit of a sunburn.
At the park is one of the most photographed shipwreck. Justin tried to touch it that first night in the extreme mist, but the drop off scared him off.
The next morning, at low tide, he could touch it no problem. Apparently, the crew of the ship had a similar experience… they needed rescuing the night of the wreck and were a bit surprised to find it very accessible the next morning!
Finally, a picture of our souvenir… Justin’s first starfish find!
