Laundry and lights

I think I missed the 13 month update? I know I missed 14. So here it goes.

Martin has become a true toddler. He took his first steps a couple days after his 13 month birthday. Today, he walks more than he crawls. It is just so funny to see his bare little bum, or diaper covered bum, walking along.

He has lots of new signs and a couple of new words. J's parents taught him the concept of hot in Buffalo with the help of the tea kettle. So, now anything with steam or a flame is "Ha Ha Ha" with emphasis on the H. Think My Fair Lady emphasis. He has added a word that is his equivalent of hello. It doesn't sound like hello - well, it does have two syllables and is missing the H that he loves so much with "ha"- but he says it over and over while playing with the cell phone.

He still likes to eat, still loves his mama's milk, and is starting to love his goat's milk at night. I'm glad that I introduced the goat's milk at night. Solids are hit and miss. He doesn't necessarily reject particular foods... just all foods at about 40% of the meals. But, since we introduced goat's milk at night he has been able to chunk up a little. His favorite solids are homemade raviolis, apples - which he bites and then spits out, but loves, and avocados.

He LOVES his papa. He wants to be JUST LIKE PAPA. If Papa wears gloves, then he is willing to consider it. If Papa is cooking, he needs to be cooking. If Papa pees standing up, then he is only willing to try to pee standing up. Mama, well, she is mostly just for night times. Fun during the day when Papa isn't around and critical at night. How is it that even through we've transferred from breastfeeding to bottle at night that he still needs it from Mama?

It is fun to watch Martin grow from a baby into a little person. It is funny what they pick up. For instance, we hang his diaper covers up to dry after we wash them to save the elastic. We do it up high on this gerririgged "clothesline." Well, about a week ago, Martin decided that HE NEEDED to hang them. It wasn't really possible since we have to stand on the couch to reach the clothesline. So, I made him a little one. Now he hangs them and takes them down several times a day.

He also has been scared of shadows since about 8 months old. Yet he loves pointing out lights, loves touching the lights in the airplane, etc. Today, he finally got the concept of light shining on something by playing with Papa's bike light. You should have seen his amazement at the light jumping around on the ceiling and walls.

It is so fun to watch them develop and grow. They do the funniest things!!! Two of my three children didn't start walking until they were 16 months old so I always have a hard time seeing younger kids standing so solid - in my mind they should still be crawling. I LOVE the My Fair Lady comparison - I have a really clear vision of what he sounds like now :)

I've offically decided that Martin is going to be a GENIUS we're talking Albert Eienstein smart. :)

He is so cute. I wish I could walk around the back yard with him a bit. I can just see him saying HHHHot according to Professor Higgin's instructions, but just like a little one to forget how to say the H sound when saying ello on the telephone. I miss you guys, but sure do love to read the blog updates. Give everyone kisses.
