Update on how we are adjusting

Right now we are in a local coffee shop... we had to get out of the house for the afternoon to combat general fussiness. It turns out a two week old has fussy periods.

Let's see. How are we doing?

Well-baby visit: Last Friday we went to our well baby visit. Martin is still growing. He is now 22 inches long and nearly 9 lbs, 3 oz.

School: I've taken Martin to 4 classes. The three last week went really well. He was a model student, sleeping through them entirely. Last nights wasn't so great. He woke up a half hour before I went to class and would not go back to sleep. I kept thinking surely he will fall asleep soon... its been 1 hour, 1.5 hours, 2 hours, 2.25 hours. At around 2.25 hours I threw in the towel. He wasn't even satisfied any longer with me walking circles in the hall outside the door so I could listen to the very interesting presentations. I almost regretted the decision when he fell asleep the second I walked out of the building. But, never fear. He woke up halfway home and then cried for another 2 hours in Grandma's arms.

In other school news, I turned in my largest paper last night which means essentially 1 classe done with only two to go. One only requires I show up on Thursday to give 90 seconds worth of a 5 minute group presentation. The other requires I finish a take home exam by writing a one page essay. I am so thrilled to see that I am going to be able to finish the quarter without taking any incompletes. Three were moments that I thought there was no way that would be possible... that I was crazy when I thought I could get all of this done. But it seems I wasn't so crazy. And it feels so good to have another quarter done and under my belt.

Help: Today we dropped Grandma and Grandpa Elardo off at the airport. They were wonderful... cooking and cleaning for me all week long. And it was fun to see them interact with Martin. Of course it rained pretty much the entire time they were here (today it is sunny!).

We are again on our own until tomorrow night when Justin arrives. We have missed him very much and he has missed us. We are so glad that starting tomorrow night, we have 4 months of uninterrupted time together.

Nicole's health: I'm doing pretty well. Tomorrow I go in for my check-up with my midwife. I am sure all will be fine. I seem to be getting enough sleep (well, except for when I stay up writing papers until midnight since they are due the next day). I'm down within a pound or two of my pre-pregnancy weight, so that is nice - especially since I can wear a lot of my pre-pregnancy clothes.

So, that is about it. We travel to Vegas in a little over a week. We have a ton going on between now and then. 2 doctors appts, a visit with our doula to exchange pictures and stories, 4 church (mostly holiday) events, need to pack up my room, one staff meeting, one meeting with my advisor, one class to go to....yeah, it should be a busy week!
