Doored

The excitement for the day was that I was doored on my way to work. For those of you who don't bike, that is the term for when someone opens up their door at the exact second you are passing by which causes you to hit the door and crash. I actually ride pretty far out into the road to avoid this sort of thing (and I am a very defensive driver). But, when a truck (a THE OSU maintance truck to be exact) opens its door, it goes out pretty far.

I was wearing my helmet, so it cracked instead of my head. The left side of my body is pretty scrapped and bruised... I think it is going to feel worse before it feels better. My left heal really hurts when I walk, probably from digging in when I was crashing. I have a slight headache. I don't think I have a concusion (although I couldn't remember Justin's phone number at first... I think I was just pretty dazed), but I'll certainly be looking for signs of it as the day goes on.

The good news is that after sitting there for 45 minutes waiting for the police, the THE OSU supervisor, etc, I felt good enough to ride home (on the sidewalk, going slowly). My bike seems ok. The handlebars are out of alignment, but that is easily fixed. We are going to try out our new bike rack we bought to transport the bike across the country to take it into the shop just to make sure. It needs a tune up anyways and I need a new helmet for Monday morning.

And the extra good news: I felt entirely justified in calling into work and charging sick time today, so my weekend starts early.

Holy COW that sounds terrible, I would definately be boobin more about it than you apparently are, it sounds awful. You'll definately never ride the same, you'll always worry about a door swinging open and and ruining your perfectly good day! SO SORRY!! Glad you're ok.

Love, Mari

HOLY COW that sounds terrible! I would be milking that for a little more sympathy if I were you! I couldn't help but picturing the whole thing while reading, and I'll tell you, it looks pretty awful in my head. You probably won't ride the same ever again, you'll always worry that a door will fly open and ruin your perfectly good day! SO SORRY! Glad you're ok though.

Love, Mari

I can't save a comment, something is weird with your blog that it won't allow me to comment...maybe you have to do something with the controls or something. I don't know. Hope you get these.
