It is hard to believe, but Martin turned 2 late last month. We were lucky to have both sets of grandparents (2 Memas! 2 Pepas!) here for the celebration... and celebrate we did!
It is hard to sum up Martin. He is sure an inquisitive, delightful, if spirited, two year old. Maybe his favorite book list would help.

Dr. Seuss' ABC Book: Martin knows all of his capital letters and most of his lowercase letters. In fact, he has been pretty obsessed with letters for much of the fall. You can then only imagine how much he LOVES the rhythms in this book, particularly Silly Sammy Slick who sips six sodas and gets sick sick sick. Thanks to Cousin V for sending us this well loved book.

The Boy Who Lost His Belly Button: Admittedly, the humor of a boy who, after searching the jungle mammals, finds his lost belly button on the reptilian tummy of a crocodile goes past a two year old. But the fact that this boy is (1) looking for something and (2) talking about bellybuttons makes this a serious favorite.

Thomas Gets a Snowplow: Anything train is still a favorite; Thomas just puts it over the top! Thanks Auntie G and Uncle J.
The Little Engine That Could: See above PLUS the passenger engine has quite the speech that Martin likes to repeat. "I PULL YOOUUU... passenger engine.... [insert a couple of phrases pretty unintelligible].... INDEEEEED NOT!" Martin seems to be drawn to the "punky" phrases in stories; I'm not sure what that says about his personality.
The Moon: This sweet illustrated interpretation of Stevenson's classic three stanza poem has squeaking mice and howling dogs plus trucks, boats, clocks, an adventure with Papa, and THE MOON. Too bad this has to back to the library soon... we read it EVERY night.
Pumpkin Soup: (the best you ever tasted!) is a sweet book (thanks Grandma E) that describes a duck who bucks the traditional household roles by saying the oft repeated phrase in this house "It's MY turn to stir the soup."
Don't get me wrong, Martin is definitely "all boy" in that he loves to run, throw, kick, look at moving vehicles, etc. But we are thrilled that he loves to read and soak up every bit of information that he can. Happy Birthday Martin!

Happy Birthday Martin! Thanks for the book reviews - it is always nice to get some recommendations on some good childrens books. If you come to Vegas for Christmas call me :)
Happy Birthday from us also. We were at your parents home last evening for dinner and I wish you could have seen them describe Martin to us. I think they are pretty enchanted with him;all beams and happy faces! No one could ever be any smarter, cuter, or more daring etc etc etc. ;) It was fun for us to see them so delighted in a grandchild. Hope to see him soon.
