Enjoying our new city

Life has been crazy... several moves, a couple bouts with the flu, a trip to Portland, a sick niece... you name it, we've had/done it. But today was a beautiful fall San Francisco day and we decided to take advantage.

To be honest, we were hoping to go to the free fire house museum, but Martin slept late and we underestimated the Golden Gate Park traffic on the way. So, last minute, we decided to go down to fisherman's wharf and look for some sea lions and cable cars on Hyde Street.

Turns out that today was National Public Lands Day and admission to climb on the historic ships at Hyde Street Pier was free! So, we climbed around, rang a bell, found some sea lions, and sat on steps in protest of leaving when closing time came.

After that, we walked half a block to the sandy beach at the end of Fisherman's Wharf and played in the sand and practiced jumping (Martin's newest favorite trick) for about an hour. (Martin's joy is from spotting "nother one" or another sailboat going past the little cove.)

We even got to see a bubble lady!

The best part about driving around San Francisco with Martin is his sheer joy at seeing "San Cisco" whenever a new vista comes into view. (The second best part is when he tells the cars that beep because of traffic "sorry car.")

We thought it had been a perfect and complete (not to mention FREE) urban afternoon until we went to read our goodnight books. Martin found his "Goodnight San Francisco" and was DELIGHTED to tell us that the sea lions (and golden gate bridge, cable cars, ocean, etc) were "OUTSIDE!!! ... NOTHER ONE OUTSIDE!! CISCO!!"

Yes Martin, yes it is.
