WHY OH WHY would you paint glass, much less an architectural detail such as a transom?
Well, because you don't want to see this behind it:

What is that you ask? Well, that would be the upper part to the "storm door" contraption that was missing when we took possession of the house. While I'm all for storm doors (it is something that is moving up the list and will probably gain importance either in the heat of summer or possibly next October), if the door part is missing, why should I embrace the mickmouse transom solution? I had already removed the plywood covering the front door transom so it could look like this:

So, now the kitchen transom looks like this:

(Ignore the unfinished wall paint and wood stripping job. Also, I didn't realize how rusted the exterior overhang was until I went through this process.)

Next step... removing and restoring the hardware so I can (a) finish stripping the wood and (b) make the transom work. That will have to be another Saturday!

Well Nicole, I remember when I was your age and had all that energy but now just reading about restoring all that wood and transoms etc etc etc just makes me tired. Wow I'm glad you are young and full of vim and vinegar. You will need it but it will be lovely when you get it done. I didn't know you were such a handygirl.
